1. Before we begin, please note: each section follows a similar premise but are different enough that details are needed. Read carefully and take things step-by-step!
Some sections have confirmations before deletion or moving forwards in general, and some do not.
2. To begin, navigate to the “Manage Grades” page by clicking the "Grades" tab. Then follow the steps in one or more of the sections below.
The “Manage Grades” page shows all the assignments, quizzes, and discussions grade items and their associations.
You will be using this page a lot.
1. Choose the grade item you wish to disassociate and delete from your course. We’ll be using the assignment grade item titled “Assignment Test” to show the exact process.

2. First, we must disassociate this item from the tool being used. In the 'Association' column, there is a question mark symbol next to the 'Assignments' association. Click on it for further information, including the name of the current associated assignment.
3. Click the blue 'OK' button to exit the pop-up window, then navigate to the 'Assignments' Tool under the 'Tools' navigation tab.
4. Now, locate the assignment that was associated with the grade item you wanted deleted. For this example, it's the first option - 'Assignment Test'.
5. Click the drop-down menu next to the name of the assignment, and click the 'Edit Assignment' button.

6. Find the association under the 'Grade Book' section, next to the 'Due Date' option in the second row of buttons. Click on the 'Edit or Link to Existing' option in the drop-down menu.

7. You can choose to either change the link to another existing item, or choose to create a whole new grade item to associate the assignment with. The picture below shows the example assignments and options, which may be different for your own course.
8. Once you have chosen your option, click the blue “Save and Close” button to exit the assignment. Then, navigate back to the “Grades” tool, then make sure you are in the “Manage Grades” tab. The screenshot below shows no association for “Assignment Test” and the new association is linked to “Example”.

9. Now, click on the 'More Actions' button at the top of the page, then click the 'Delete' option. This will take you to the 'Delete Grade Items and Categories' page.
10. Use the checkboxes next to the name of the item to highlight it; in this case, we highlight the Assignment Test item. Using the blue 'Delete' button at the bottom of the page, we are also shown a Confirmation pop-up window asking for confirmation of deletion.
