3. You will be taken to an Edit Widget page where you can edit the widget and it defaults in the Properties tab. Select the Name field below the Properties tab. You can delete the name or add stuff to it. For example, "Your Instructor Jessica Richardson."
5. Go to the Content tab and this will take you to the Content field where you will do most of the editing on this widget.
You can expand the content box by selecting the three lines on the bottom right-hand side of the box, hold and pull this down and this will give you more space to work in.
6. Remove the grayed out picture placeholder by selecting it and hit backspace to delete so you can insert a picture of yourself in that area.
In the new Insert Stuff screen, select Choose File and find the folder where the image file is located within your computer. After doing so, select Choose Destination to choose a location to store your image within the course content.
Before uploading/embedding the image, name the image file (e.g. First Last Instructor Photo) for an easier access in the future.
A different screen will appear, select a path where you want to store the folder for your image such as in the course folder. To add a folder under the course folder, select New Folder.
Create a folder titled Image and select create.
The folder will then be saved in the course folder then select Select a Path at the bottom to add the file destination.
When done, select Upload.
8. After selecting Upload, it will bring you to a screen where you're going to add some link text and alternate text to the picture then select Insert to insert the image in the content box.
Please note that the alternate text is really important because this is what a student's screen reader is going to read to them.
9. After doing so, the picture will then be added to the content box.
If the image appears too large for you, you can resize it to fit inline with the text by selecting one of those blue squares that appear at each of the corners of the picture.
10. And underneath that picture, it says Your Instructor with these three pound signs as a placeholder, replace that placeholder with your name.
Then, replace the placeholder under email with your email address. And to the right of that is a statement about email messages and discussion postings, you can modify that depending on your course.
Under Office Hours, you can set it to By Appointment for online teaching or adding regular office hours that students can depend on for face-to-face class.
{FirstName}! is a replace string and D2L is going to automatically populate the student's first name here.
You can also enter a link to meet with students either via Google Meet or Zoom by highlighting the text and select little chain link, and then add in the link right here.
Here is an example:
11. Lastly, select Save and Close to save all the changes made and it will take you out of the editing part of the widget. Then navigate to the course homepage to check if the changes you made has been added to the Your Instructor widget.

You are done. Great job!

When I add the instructor widget to my course home page and select "Edit this widget" from the drop-down menu I get a "Not Authorized" error.

Hi Steven! Thanks for letting us know. Normally when this happens it is because you haven't created a copy of your instructor widget. Please follow the steps provided in this article on how to copy the widget to edit: https://pimacc.screenstepslive.com/a/1621034-copying-the-your-instructor-widget
