Adding Release Conditions Via The Content Menu

Updated on

When you attach a release condition to an item, students cannot see that item until they meet the associated condition.

Tools that support release conditions:

  • Checklists
  • Content modules and topics
  • Custom widgets
  • Discussion forums and topics
  • Assignments folders
  • Grade items and categories
  • LiveRoom rooms
  • Announcements items
  • Quizzes
  • Surveys

1. For this example, release conditions will be added to an existing quiz.

First navigate to the module and assignment that the release conditions need to be added to.

2. Next, scroll down to the bottom and click on "Add dates and restrictions..."

3. There are two options available, "Create" and "Browse".

The following pictures show the steps to "Create" a condition.

4. After clicking "Create" a release condition, a drop down menu opens to choose from to set the desired release condition type.

Add the heading where these conditions are located: "nested under Condition Type" A screen reader navigates based on headings.

5. After the "condition type" has been set, it can be added to specific content.

Another drop-down menu selects which item to set the conditions to.

Here it is added to the test quiz.

When satisfied, click "Create" to finish creating the new release condition.

Depending on the condition type, additional condition details might become available.

I have never figured out how to have two due dates for a single discussion when the initial post is due on one day and the responses to other posts are due on another day in the same discussion. I do not see a way to do this based on the information presented here. I already use the End Date for the last day for late entries.

Hi Mark! Thank you so much for your feedback on this article. Unfortunately, other than the end date option, D2L does not currently have additional dates you are able to add within the discussion settings (like a due date). After checking the Brightspace Product Idea Exchange website, we were able to find an idea written by another Brightspace user with this request: https://desire2learn.brightidea.com/ideas/D7468. If this idea gets enough votes, D2L will try to implement it in their future update releases.

I find this to be one of the more intuitive parts of the D2L program.
It leads me right where I need to be and blocks me from screwing it up too badly.
Even adding special conditions has been relatively simple!

I think learning new opportunities within D2L is exciting and refreshing up on previously learned items is good as well.
