PlayPosit: Learner-Made Bulbs Creating a Bulb (Interactive Video)

In this article, you will learn the basics for creating a PlayPosit bulb (interactive video) including adding a video, adding interactions, and adjusting settings.

Prerequisites

Have an assignment in D2L where you need to create a PlayPosit interactive video
Have a Panopto video recorded or a video selected from another host source (YouTube, or Vimeo).

Step-by-step Instructions

1. Adding your Video

1.1. Navigate to your PlayPosit assignment link in D2L. Select the link.

1.2. The assignment will open with the instructions for the assignment. Select the start button.

If the assignment doesn't open, make sure you allow pop-ups from D2L in your browser.

1.3. The PlayPosit Bulb Designer will open in a new window. You can now begin crafting your video!

1.4. In the left portion of the bulb designer you will select your video source from available options, Youtube, Vimeo, or Panopto (we suggest using Panopto to record video as PlayPosit's record function is not available). For this tutorial, we will show how to create a PlayPosit bulb using Panopto but similar principles apply to all video sources.

1.5. Select Panopto to insert a video. You will be logged into your Panopto account. *Make sure you have already recorded your Panopto video before this step.

1.6. Select your video and it will appear. Navigate to the bottom of the Bulb Designer and select Customize to enable Captions or Trim and Crop.

1.7. Captions: Turn on available Captions or upload your own captions. Captions are required by ADR for accessibility. Please do your best to ensure all your videos include captions.

1.8. Trim & Crop: If desired, use the Start (green) and End (red) flags to toggle what section of the video you would like to use. Select Done when finished.

Navigate to the video timestamp below the video on the left side of the screen where you will find the Start and Stop buttons. Next, select Done to the lower right of the video timestamp.

Success! Your video will appear to the right of the screen and is ready to add Interactions. The Bulb Designer (video editor) will appear to the left.

2. Adding Interactions

2.1. You will now begin to add Interactions to your videos. First, use the time scrub bar to navigate to the time where you would like to add an Interaction. Once you have navigated to your selected time, select the Add an Interaction button.

Interactions tab is open in the bulb designer. Message to click the “add an interaction” button below to begin adding interactions.

2.2. Alternatively, you can press the Play triangle and watch the video to find where you would like to insert an Interaction. Next, press Pause and select Add an Interaction.

2.3. The available interactions will appear.

Simple answer options include Multiple Choice, Check All, Fill In the Blank, and Poll.
Free Response and Discussion allow you to request longer input from the viewer.
Supplementary information options include Pause (to include important instructions or background information), Web Embed (to include supplementary sources like web pages), and PDF File (to include a PDF for viewing purposes only).

For this tutorial, we will review how to create a Multiple Choice Interaction. The same principles apply to all interactions.

2.4. On the left side of the screen, select Multiple Choice Interaction

2.5. The Editing box will appear. Type your question into the question box. Add as many multiple choice options as you would like. Next, be sure to select the correct answer and select Done.

2.6. Your interaction has now appeared in your video! You can see where your interactions are on the time scrub bar indicated with a small white dot. You can also scroll your created interactions on the left side of the screen. This is where you can return to edit an interaction if needed.

3. Review & Submit

3.1. Once you have finished creating your interactions, you will review and submit your Bulb video. Navigate to and select the Review section at the top right of the Bulb Designer.

You can preview or submit your video now. Once you submit, you will not be able to go back and make changes.
