Panopto: Using Panopto for D2L Discussions

Panopto can be used within D2L Discussions to post a video. You will do this using the Insert Stuff option within the HTML editor bar for the Discussion Post.

Please Note: Videos shared in Discussions should have their Share settings set to Public (unlisted). To learn more please go to Panopto: Understanding Permissions and Sharing.

Step-by-step Directions

  • Choose a Panopto video from your Panopto folders to insert.
  • Upload a video to your Panopto folder to insert.
  • Record a video to your Panopto folder to then insert into the discussion post.

Choose the way that you want to insert your Panopto video below to get instructions on that specific process.

For the Upload and Record options, you will need to select the Panopto Assignment folder for your D2L course. To do this select the drop menu arrow on the far right and select the drop-down arrow to the right of the Brightspace D2L Parent Folder under the All folders option. Finally, select the drop-down arrow to the left of the folder that has the name of your D2L course, and then select the folder that has the same name as your D2l course and the [assignments] tag at the end.

Choose Video from Panopto to Insert

Congrats! You can now add more to your post and then select Post when you are finished with your discussion post.

Upload Video to Panopto to Insert

Select Insert

Record a Video in Panopto Capture to Insert

The detail on how to record your video with Panopto Capture can be found on How to Create a Video Using Panopto Capture. Start with Step 2, Select a Microphone. Please return to the Discussions tab in your browser once your video has been recorded and Panopto indicates the video is ready.
