This article will walk you through the initial steps to set up your course in Perusall.

Step by Step Instructions

Creating and Linking your Course from D2L

1. In order to set up and link your Perusall course to your D2L course:

First follow the instructions in Perusall: Adding a Perusall Course Login to D2L.

2. When you first select the Perusall link you create in your D2L course, it will automatically create your Perusall course and open the course in a new window.

Completing Perusall Course Setup

When you first enter your Perusall course, you will be prompted to complete the following steps to set up your course. Any of these settings can be changed later on through the Settings tab.

1. First, tell Perusall about your course by selecting the department, course start date, and course end date. Items marked by an asterisk are required for setup.

2. Next, you will indicate how you would like to set up Analytics and grading for the course. Descriptions of the different options are included below each option.

Descriptions of Analytics Options (select dropdown to view)

Automatic grading and engagement analytics: Perusall will provide data about student engagement for your review and assignments will be graded automatically. You can always override automatically-assigned grades and decide when they are displayed to students.
Manual grading and engagement analytics: Perusall will provide data about student engagement for your review. Assignments will not be graded automatically, but you can review student engagement data and manually assign scores to students' assignment submissions.
Disable grading, but provide engagement analytics: Perusall will provide data about student engagement for your review. All assignments will be ungraded and the gradebook will be disabled.
Disable all analytics: Perusall will not provide data about student engagement. All assignments will be ungraded and the gradebook will be disabled.

3. Finally, you will fill out the enrollment estimate and target group size for small groups. These selections are required, but an estimate can be made and changed later if needed. Once completed, select Save changes at the bottom.
