The Required Textbook(s) and/or Materials component must be completed before the syllabus can be submitted for approval. The component may already be populated by the Common Syllabus Template editor. If you would like to change the information, please okay it with your Department Head. This guide shows how to add textbook, OER, and "no materials required" information. The instructions can also be used for the Optional/Recommended Textbook(s) and/or Materials component. Use the Simple Syllabus: Adding Supplemental Materials guide for other materials.
Note: The orange border around the component indicates that completion is required.
Tip: Use the Help Text for guidance. The Help Text for online and all other modalities is exactly the same.
Select the "pencil" icon.
- Select the "Title" field to type out the title. (required)
- Choose any other field to populate it. (optional)
- Upload an image or add a URL to an image. (optional)
- Select the "Save" button.
Tip: Use the Book Search option. You can search with the title, ISBN, author, etc.

- Select the "Save" button.
Add the link to the OER material in the "Subtitle" field for students to copy and paste.
- Add "None required" or similar verbiage to the "Title" field. (required)

- Select the "Save" button.
