Intelligent Agents are useful to create automatons for your class, whether it's for daily activity monitoring or collecting information for grading.
1. To add to the Agent List, select the blue 'New Agent' button.
2. You can change different settings for the Agent: changing name and description:
You can add the name and description of the agent, or add it to a category! The 'Agent is enabled' checkbox - labeled 3 in the below screenshot - is used when you want to activate the agent - if you are simply working on a new agent and wish to deploy it at a different time, leave this box blank for the time being.
3. The Scheduling section - labeled 1 - is used when deciding how often you want your agent to run and analyze the certain aspect of the course. You can have it run for a multitude of reasons, daily for attendance, weekly for weekly assignments/discussions, etc.
The Criteria section has many different parts as well: the roles in Classlist, taking Action on Activity, Course Activity, and Release Conditions.
The Role in Classlist section means that you can assign either all roles to the Agent, or you select specific roles for the agent to study and report.
You can use the textboxes to the right of each sentence (option) to determine the days users have not accessed/logged into your class, and use the checkboxes on the left of each sentence (option) to select these conditions.
4. The Create and Browse buttons will bring up pop-up windows with menus of various conditions to release the new item when they are met, and you can choose them based on what seems relevant to your course.
The Browse button will lead you to a window with options such as 'assignments,' 'Awards,' 'Checklist,' 'Classlist,' and much more!
5. The Create button will take you to a window where you can choose a condition, then choose a role in the classlist to have this condition assigned to.
6. The Actions area has two options for reporting a user's criteria: either the first time criteria is met, or every time criteria is met. There is also an optional checkbox to send an email to the instructor email when the criteria is met.
The 'What Action Repetition setting should I use?' hyperlink leads to a pop-up window that includes Information you might find useful to determine how you should choose the Action Repetition in your course:
7. To save your progress, select 'Save.' To finish your work, you can select the blue 'Save and Close' button, but if you are trying to deploy the Agent to your course remember to enable the 'Agent is enabled' checkbox in the 'Status' section!
Congratulations! You now know how to add an Intelligent Agent to your course!
